Willard Sorority Ducky Pillow

This Phi Mu little sister sorority gift only needs to be put into a 5 x 7 frame, wrapped up in festive paper, and given to your favorite little sister.

Here is an example of an easy, inexpensive sorority gift that you can make quickly.  Small mats like this one in standard sizes like 5 x 7 or 8 x 10 can be found in craft stores. Actually, a pink mat would be even better, but this time, I just used what I already had.

You need a lion drawing that you can print off on cardstock or you can 'free hand' a drawing of a lion. Add the Phi Mu letters and "I Love my Lil Sis!" with a Sharpee or other pen.

Color with colored pencils or use watercolor paints like I did here.

Cut and tape the painted design to the back side of your mat. Then pop it into a little frame - I pick up nice little frames at the dollar store.

This can be done for any other sorority. If you need a mascot drawing, go to Google Images and see what you can find. You can print off a sorority mascot picture and then trace it with a black pen so that you only have the line drawing without color. This is easy if you trace, holding your papers up to a window so the light shines through. This enables you to clearly see the lines of the design.

I wish sorority fabric designs like this one were not so hard to find. This beautiful fabric that is perfect for a dreamy Delta Gamma pillow is for sale today, but may not be here tomorrow. There is a link below if it is still available on eBay.

I haven't done cross stitch in a while, but these beautiful patterns for Alpha Delta Pi just make me want to get out sewing basket again. Like the Delta Zeta cross stitch designs, I don't know how long this Alpha Delta Pi cross stitch will be available on ebay.

My favorite is the little bunch of violets (two blossoms and one bud) with Alpha Delta Pi embroidered over the flower design. It is nice the way the pattern set includes the sorority name in different sizes so that you can cross stitch the size that you need for whatever project you plan to make.

The lion is nice, too, but looks like it would take a while to finish.

There are a lot of choices for letters, so you can find what you like best.

Anyway, I think the designs are quite beautiful, and for a DZ sister that enjoys hand work and making sorority gifts, this would be a great help for making unique Delta Zeta Christmas gifts. Just having these patterns available would enable you to cross stitch a small gift for any sorority occasion.  I only wish it were always available.

Need a Special Sorority Gift?

All the little sister sorority gifts that you give are what expresses the sisterhood of your sorority. Sometimes, a handmade sorority gift expresses your affection better than a Greek gift that you buy like from Greek Gear.

If you like to paint with acrylic paints, there are so many gifts that you can make that take only a little bit of your time. I love to just browse in crafts stores or online and I always see so many ideas that can be adapted to make a great sorority gift.

This foam coozie is an example of a craft item that is almost always available in craft stores. Just look for your sorority colors. Images for an owl or whatever your mascot might be, can be obtained through Google images or Etsy.com by searching for "owl" or whatever your sorority mascot.  You can copy to image and print it...then adapt it for your project.  When I paint on a foam coosie like this one, I use transfer graphite paper to trace the design onto the coosie. This works to transfer a design onto most any surface that you want to paint on.

After the basic pattern is on the coosie, you just paint between the lines. I use a black sharpie to add details like the owl's feet and feathers.

Here is an easy way to make a stuffed poodle  into a very special symbol of your sorority, in this case, Sigma Gamma Rho.

Make a necklace with a ribbon and a foam shape. All you need is:

Materials & supplies:

l. about a half yard of narrow ribbon (depending on the size you your plush animal)

2. a foam shape ( packs of  shapes are available inexpensively at craft stores )

3. paint brush  and acrylic paints(you might substitute sharpie markers)

4. a hole puncher

5. approximately a yard of wider ribbon for bow

Simple Directions:

1. Paint your Greek letters on the foam shape

2. Punch a hole with  hole puncher

3. Thread the ribbon through the hole that you punched

4. Tie ribbon necklace around the mascot neck

5. Add a pretty  ribbon bow in the color of your choice

-that's it!............ So simple....

You might find other foam shapes that will work well, too. A heart would be beautiful. A circle would be great. too.

First, I bought a foam coosie for 50 cents or a dollar (I can't remember which). First I drew the turtle design on paper. From that point, I have several choices: (1) Draw the turtle free hand on the coosie, (2)cut out the turtle from the paper and trace around it with a pencil, or (3)use a sheet of graphite paper behind the paper pattern to transfer the design to the coosie - this is easy and gives you the most detail, but you need to have graphite paper. I usually use the graphite paper way.

After I have my turtle design, I add color with paint. Using my acrylic paints - olive green, white, and black, I painted my little turtle. The easiest way to add the BLACK detail is with a Sharpie pen. That is what I used for the turtle outline, turtle eyeballs, and the "Delta Zeta" at the top of the coosie.

The acrylic paints dry so fast that I was finished in no time. Actually, I painted the foam star stickers at the same time, while I had my paints out and brushes already in the paint. The foam stars (foam comes in so many shapes and colors) have a peel off backing that can be removed when you are ready to sticky the star onto something.  The tiny turtles were painted "free hand" and have very little detail since they are so small. Again, I used my fine Sharpie to write "Delta Zeta" in an arc over the turtle. Now that is done, too.

My last handmade sorority gift is actually a hand painted wooden box. You have seen these in the craft stores. They are round and come in graduated sizes. Sometimes they are sold in sets of 3 different sizes that nest inside of each other. I was able to buy a single box. I painted the top with olive green acrylic paint. After that was completely dry, I used the pattern method mentioned above for the coosie to get my turtle design on the box.  Instead of PAINTING the turtle's shell, I cut the pattern out of pink and white striped fabric. I glued the fabric onto the box with Tacky glue, being careful to put it on just the write place.

They had been offered on eBay for a while and then I could not find them again. After searching over a period of time, I finally connected to the lady that makes these pillows by order and discovered that she has an eBay shop, is a top rated seller, and is willing to make custom ordered Greek pillows like these if you would like to order one.

Her name is Cindy and this is her story:

My daughter, Stefanie is a Phi Mu  and graduated from the University of Oklahoma at Norman in 2005.  When she went in 2000, we started doing the pillows as gifts to her sorority sisters, for Big/Little, Graduation, etc.  Everyone loved them and soon we were making them for friends of hers and for her sisters that were in other sororities too.

We have an Ebay store that we started about 4 1/2 years ago.  We introduced various sorority themed gift items and they were a hit including the pillows and beaded bracelets, necklaces, ornaments, tote bags to name just a few things.

We can do most any Greek Letter or Initial Pillow set. We maintain a large amount of different colors and patterns of fabrics with ribbons, buttons & Bling! embellishments for the pillows.

We also do beaded bracelets & necklaces with sorority letters or sorority mascot charms.  We do sorority marker boards.  Close to Christmas, we do sorority themed ornaments.

Plush lions are not so hard to find. I have come acoss all kinds in stores.  This Beanie Baby is one of my favorites.  Buying a lion and personalizing it with a necklace gives it that hands-on personal touch that makes it one-of-a kind.  When you make it yourself, yours is unique. I love that!

Are you a regular at crafts stores or art departments. Go down the children's craft aisle and you will find all sizes and shapes of foam. If you don't like to paint, you can write the letters with a paint pen.  I did need a hole puncher to make a hole for the ribbon to slide through. Last thing, was to tie the ribbon around the lion's neck. I love the way he turned out.

The Chatter Tree in Statesboro, GA

I am going to share with  you a little history of the beginnings of the sorority gift ideas that are offered on this website. We have to  reminisce a little  into the past.

If you remember when Georgia Southern University was just Georgia Southern College, then you might remember The Chatter Tree, the gift and craft shop  that was housed in an enormous old Victorian house  in downtown Statesboro in the 1980's and a while after that.

Sorority gifts made in the early 1980's

It was there that I met the sorority girls from Georgia Southern, which at that time only included KD, DZ, AD Pi, ZTA, Phi Mu, and Chi O. Later AKA and Sigma Delta Theta came along.

The Chatter Tree had a small hallway at the very back of the store that was the sorority room. This was where I displayed all the handmade sorority gifts that I had painted and sewed. The brown jugs which are shown (partially completed) in the picture never lasted long. They were made from large recycled bottles from the local drug store and were finished with a great big colorful bow tied around the neck of the bottle. They sold for $5.95.  The handpainted plaques like the ones shown sold for $1 - $4 depending on size and intricacy of the design.

Everyday, girls stopped by to talk to me about what they wanted personalized. I took many orders every week to make one-of-a-kind sorority gift items or awards according to what the girls desired.

I painted so many turtles, frogs, butterflies, owls, lions, and lady bugs that I had the designs all in my head and didn't rely on patterns anymore for most of them. I only took a few pictures of some of the sorority gifts that I made.

One of the favorites of the sorority gifts was study boards. I painted so many study boards.  They were made of smoothly sanded plywood cut in a retangular shape with a half circle cut out on the bottom edge.

The boards were almost always special orders to be painted a particular color-  with the mascot on one corner and a little sister's name on the other corner. It would be so neat to hear from somebody who used to have one of these handpainted study boards.  There might still be some that have survived. (I have one that I painted for my husband from that time period, but it is stained instead of painted and has a mallard duck on it instead of an owl or a turtle.)

1980's Handmade Sorority Gifts

Well, now I paint crowns for ZTA, lions for Phi Mu,  and bears for KD, but 30 years ago it was butterflies, ladybugs, and frogs.  I wonder if those sororities at Georgia Southern have continued with  butterflies, ladybugs, and frogs.

So you would like to save money and make your own Greek Easter eggs?  I didn't make these, but I think you can make some similar Easter eggs with good results.  These are approximate directions for this sorority gift:

1. Buy some plastic easter eggs. The come in various sizes. The standard size would work well or the large eggs.

2. Practice your Greek Letter design on paper first. Draw until you are happy with the drawing.

3. Using your drawing to look at, use paint pens to paint a similar design on your egg.

The letters in the picture example have a white background painted first and then the letters painted on top of the white and then outlined with black (I would use a Sharpie marker for the outline)

4. Optional: spray the eggs with Krylon Crystal Clear (a spray varnish) or any other spray varnish brand.

This particular Delta Zeta scrapbook has incorporated a lot of leaves and flowers into the design which makes it have a natural look. I also really like the polka dotted pink ribbon that edges the scrapbook cover and makes a closure with a bow.

The fun part of making a sorority scrapbook is choosing your paper and ribbon. Any craft store like Michaels, JoAnns, or Hobby Lobby have an abundance of scrapbooking paper and card stock to choose from. Pinks and greens are luscious together so it is easy to make a design with your colors that does not clash, but looks lovely.

The scrapbook letter kits are not always available on eBay. Last I checked, I only saw a kit for Gamma Phi Beta with a picture of a Phi Mu set. The seller on eBay's name is Merry. I asked her what sorority kits she has available. This is her answer:

I have made sorority tote bags with out sewing them. The trick is to buy a pre-made off white canvas tote bag from Hobby Lobby or another craft store that offers them. I have even found the canvas bags on sale for half price several times, which saves a lot.

I included a picture of a Delta Zeta tote that I painted to show you and example of what you can do.

You know, I always start with a simple drawing on paper for my pattern, in this case a turtle.  When painting on fabric, very often, you can just put the pattern behind the fabric (after going over the lines with a black marker to emphasize them) and you can see the line through the fabric. Unfortunately, canvas is too thick to do this. So to get my turtle pattern onto the bag, I trace my pattern onto a piece of cardboard or card stock and cut it out. This makes a template of the outer lines of the turtle. With a pencil, I lightly trace around the turtle template onto the canvas. That gives me the basic line and then I can free hand the inner lines of the pattern. Getting the pattern penciled onto the canvas is probably the hard part.

Once you have your pattern drawn on the canvas, then you get out your pink and green paint, or go to the store and buy some if you don't have any. I keep a supply of most colors of acrylic paint and I also keep so good quality paint brushes on hand always for projects like this.

I had some nice pink rick rack so I sewed that along the top edge of the bag. There is fabric glue available if you don't sew. Last, I tied a puffy pink bow around the handle of the tote for a nice touch.

(the cardboard DZ patterns shown above are not the right pattern, but I am showing you what I mean by a cardboard template to trace around.)

Sorority Totes are available almost any store that sells sorority merchandise and gifts. I found this Delta Gamma tote bag on eBay selling for $18.99. It is an attractive bag and that is probably a fair price, but a sorority tote is another item that we, here at Sorority Sisters website, think you may want to consider making for yourself or as a gift. After all tote bags are pretty easy to sew.

I am so happy to find out that the sorority scrap packs are available again at least for some of the sororities. I have featured these wonderful sorority crafting sets more than once in articles, but they are not consistently available. It is so disappointing to get inspired by handmade gift ideas using these materials and then find that they are not available any more.  You can make numerous gifts from this kit!

So she wants a Gamma Phi Beta pillow with carnation and moon in pink, gold,white. Here I go to my sewing closet, rummaging through my fabrics that are divided by color. The pink and white stripe is one of my favorites for the back of the sorority pillows that have PINK as their sorority color. I must choose between the stripe and a pink and white curly design.  This time, the curly design wins

Drawing My Design for a Gamma Phi Beta Pillow Front

I started with my pencil and paper to draw a design that included the crescent moon and a pink carnation.

When I was happy with my rough drawing, I outlined it with a marker. This is an important step for fabric painting designs, because the design in black lines is very easy to see through the white fabric that I use for the pillow front. Lightly, with a pencil, I sketch the basic lines of the design. Now I am ready to paint. I fill up a tin can with water, grab my mug filled with paint brushes, and set my tray of acrylic paints down on my work table. I place the pillow rectangle on top of a piece of cardboard so that any paint that seeps through will be absorbed into the cardboard rather than ruining my table. I must be careful to have my paint at just the right thickness so it will spread on the fabric, but not run watery outside of the lines. After, all is painted, I wait.  Acrylic paint dries quickly so waiting is short. I plug in my iron and after it is preheated, I place a clean sheet of white paper over the painted design and iron on top of the paper for about 15 seconds. The heat from the iron 'sets' the paint so that it will not wash out. Most people will probably never wash these pillows since there is not likely a need for cleaning them, but the ironing is part of the fabric painting process and I always do it anyway.

Here is a little inspiration for a Sorority sister Valentine. Here you see a sorority Christmas ornament, but the quote and the drawing can be adapted to make a quick Valentine for a little sister or big sister.

Just take a 5 x 7 blank card - these can be bought in packs of a dozen or so OR just make a card from scratch with scrapbooking paper.

Draw two hearts in the center. The hearts look nice either the same size or your can make a big heart for big sister and a little heart for little sister.  I like to use colored pencils to color the hearts pink or red after personalizing each heart with a name.

Then draw strings to attach heart to heart using the picture above as a guide.

Last, Write:

SISTERS

Are tied together with Heartstrings.

Just write with a marker like a fine Sharpie in neat print.

Match your card with an envelope.

Address and mail.

Or

give to your little/big sister with a candy gift.

This Alpha Gamma Delta pillowcase is available today on eBay. I really like this style of Greek letters; they have a whimsical look and are less bold than the Greek letters used to monogram tee shirts and hoodies. The artistic design is very well suited for a pillow or a pillowcase like this one. If you like to make your own sorority gifts, you could use fabric dye or fabric paint pens to get a similar look. Letters such as these are actually easier to draw and paint than the standardized Greek letters that are so precise. Try it!

Show your little/big sisters what she means to you with an easy-to-make sorority  bracelet. You can follow any color scheme that you desire. For a start, just make it special by using  your sorority colors. You can also pick a charm that  fits your personality (see the tiny purse CHARM in the picture?).

After seeing how this sorority bracelet turned out, I might try the jewelry making craft which I have never done before.  I believe that this is a gift making craft that anyone can do with ease. It just involves buying the supplies, a few tools, and then putting it all together. It's nice to see that Greek letters are being made by a craft company to supply the needs of sorority gift makers.

The nice thing about jewelry making is that it is so easy to make original items by varying the colors or the bead shapes. Each change that is made produces your one-of-a-kind bracelet, necklace, or earrings. Also, it is easy to make matching jewelry sets like a bracelet with matching earrings, all made according to your choices of beads.

Here are the basic directions for making a bracelet like this:

1.  Cut a length of ZambaPro™ 49 .019 to 9 or 10 inches. Attach one wire end  to the sterling silver closed jump ring using a 2x2mm sterling silver crimp tube. See video below for help in how to do this. Begin by stringing a Hill Tribe silver spacer bead followed by a 3mm fire polished Czech glass bead, a 4mm fire polished bead of another color then a 4mm druk bead in the 3rd color. Next string another 4mm fire polished followed by a 3mm fire polished bead and a spacer. Then you should repeat the pattern three more times.

Beading Video shows how:

2.  Add your Greek letter beads with a spacer between them as in the picture above. Repeat your glass bead and spacer pattern three more times and crimp the wire to the sterling silver swivel clasp.

3. Last, open your sterling jump ring and attach the charm of your choice. Hook the charm to the closed jump ring at the end of your design.

This little pillow was a custom order for a gift. It is the first time I have had the pleasure of painting the lyre for an Alpha Chi Omega gift. I was curious to find out the origin of the lyre as the Alpha Chi Omega symbol. The lyre symbol was chosen by the founders after  a lot of research. It was designed by James G. Campbell. He was an undergraduate member of Beta Theta Pi  fraternity who acted as librarian for DePauw's School of Music. The lyre which is a replica of a three-stringed harp was named the symbol because it illustrated to the members' musical interest, as music connects the souls of many.  Also, according to Greek mythology, the lyre was first instrument played by the gods on Mt. Olympus.

It is always nice to have a sorority gift to give with a handmade touch that gives it a distinction over mass manufactured sorority gifts. Now is your chance to help clear out my cabinets and snatch up a great priced sorority gift at the same time. This won't last long. First come---first served.

The Delta Sigma Theta hang up pillow is handpainted with a cute little elephant with his trunk lifted expectantly. I must clear out my sorority gift samples because we will be moving soon and I need to cut back on what I have to pack and store.

This is a hand made idea of a sorority gift you can make yourself  inexpensively.

Sorority Gifts are needed in bulk sometimes like for Bid Day or events that every sister gets a gift set. There are several inexpensive sorority gifts on our sorority crafts page, and today, we are adding another one, Greek letter stickers.

Foam stickers are available at most craft stores and department stores like Walmart. They come in a variety of colors and shapes.

I made the samples in the picture from blue foam stars. I am partial to the stars and the heart shapes. They express Greek pride and sorority friendship more than other shapes that are available.

The shapes are already cut so there is nothing to do but to paint on the Greek letters.  I used white acrylic paint and an artist's quality thin paint brush. Such paint brushes cost a couple of dollars and can be reused indefinitely as long as you keep them cleaned and let the hairs dry in a point.

I like the white paint the best for a bright colored background such as the blue star. I have used black or red paint and I did not like the result as much. One tip for painting with white paint. Usually, white painting looks better if you go over it a second time so you don't see through it to the background color.

Short Cut TIP:

You can use a black Sharpie to apply your Sorority letters to the foam shape. That is the quickest way to make your stickers.

Greek Creations has come up with a winner with their line of sorority pillows which make a very special sorority gift, but it is such a uniquely lovely sorority item that many sisters will be asking for one for Christmas, birthday, or any other occasion when someone wants to know what you want.

This is not a tiny pillow. It is a foot high and a foot and a half wide! That size looks great on a twin bed to accent the head of the bed. Remember 12" by 18" and oblong in shape.

As you can see in this image, the Alpha Delta Pi pillow is made in colors that honor AD Pi. The front design is all about the Greek Letters and colors and there is a diamond over the Delta. The back side of the pillow is an animal print - looks like a leopard print to me.  The popcorn trim in a blue tone gives the pillow a "fun" presentation.

The price is a little steep, but for the quality and the size of the pillow, it is fairly reasonable.

What about the handmade sorority gift crowd?  As far as I know there is not a pattern available for making these sorority pillows so you would need to figure out how to make it starting with the dimensions 12" x 18" and add an inch to that, making it a 13" x 19" rectangle of fabric for the front and for the back.

SororitySisters.net offers ideas for sorority gift ideas, many of which you can make yourself.  Making something similar really is quite doable especially if you have some sewing experience, but it is definitely not a quick and easy project. I would not recommend a sewing project like this for a beginner.

If making a sorority pillow is just not your thing, then you might like these elegant pillows available for Alpha Chi Omega and a wide selection for any other sorority. The folks over at Greek Creations have come up with a pillow that has a "designer look"  for Alpha Chi Omega and most other sororities. . These pillows are big!... 18 inches by12 inches- not quite as big as a bed pillow. The oblong shaped pillow is made from vibrant colorful fabric that usually are matched to your sorority colors. This pillow  is trimmed with a popcorn or tassel fringe and is embellished with rhinestones. The back side fabric is an  animal print design that coordinates nicely with the intricate Greek letter design on the front. The pillow that is pictured has a zebra pattern on the back.

This pillow is made to make the room decorating SHINE. If you coordinate the colors of your bedspread to match the pillow, you'll have a happy room indeed.

If the pillow gets dirty, you will need to have it dry cleaned since the manufacturer warns that it is not machine washable.

Finally, I have had the privilege of making a custom order for a Sigma Delta Tau sister. With so many wonderful sororities, it is very hard to make and post  samples for every sorority. I am so sorry for those sororities  that never have seen a handmade gift idea on sororitysisters.net that represents their own sorority. It is just a lack of time on my part. I started making sorority gifts for the sororities represented at Georgia Southern University many years ago (1980s). At that time, the sororities included Kappa Delta, Delta Zeta, Phi Mu, Zeta Tau Alpha, Alpha Delta Pi, Chi Omega. It seems like there were seven, and that is only six, but I can't recall another one at the moment.

The Phi Mu mascot at Georgia Southern was and probably still is... the ladybug, ZTA mascot was a Butterfly, and the Kappa Delta mascot was the frog. That is why you see these mascots crop up sometimes in the my samples and ideas.  I still have a place in my heart for the girls at GA Southern since they were the inspiration that got me started making sorority gifts and they appreciated the handmade touch so much.  I had a little country craft shop and the girls would come in and seeing that I  was constantly working on handmade orders for people, they began asking me to make little sister gifts that were personalized. The Chi Omega sisters would come in and  patiently reminded me of the mascot and colors and flower of  their sorority. They placed orders for plaques, study boards, paddles, pillows, baskets, and many other gifts. At year's end,  I often was asked to make handpainted plaques for specific Sorority Awards.

Now, many years later, I am painting and sewing custom orders and offering ideas for sorority gifts for anybody to use if they wish to make their own gifts. I hope to soon offer patterns for download.

How should you make your own college care package? It will be a fun project and it will save money for sure.

You need a large container. A basket is always good, but be creative because you might already have something that will work just as well. I was recently in the dollar store and I noticed that they have a variety of organizing containers and buckets available in more than one color. Be sure to get a container that is big enough to hold a lot so that your gift will have the WOW appeal and really make somebody's day special.

Then make a shopping trip to Walmart of a grocery store and buy a batch of goodies similar to the items in the picture above like, boxed drinks, candy, microwave popcorn, chips, mac and cheese, pop tarts, soup cups. You might want to add some tasty in season fruit and either trail mix or nuts.

I always keep a lot of ribbon handy so that I can make anything I give more special. Tie a ribbon on ANYTHING and suddenly it looks like a lovely gift.

With a college care package, I just cut a long piece of ribbon (like 5 or 6 feet long). I put the center of the ribbon under the basket or bucket and then pull the ribbon ends up around both sides of the basket. Then tie a big fluffy bow at the top to hold it all together. The wider the ribbon, the better.  If you don't have ribbon, you can cut or tear a long strip of fabric and use it like wide ribbon, tying a bow at the top of your basket.

I gift like this is appreciated by anyone, but use the idea for your sorority sisters especially Little Sisters or Big Sisters. Add a handmade card and/or a special sorority gift or include a personalized  sorority item and you have an awesome gift that is sure to please.

for Delta Zeta is a great way to make your little sister feel extra special! Fill a basket or a  bucket with a bunch of little gifts such as a  journal or composition book, stationary or notecards,  scrapbooking die cuts, a sorority luggage tag, sorority pencils,  and maybe some stickers. Make the items yourself to save money or just add your Greek letters to pre-bought items. It is so much fun and really makes your gift special to the recipient.

Every sorority has a flower.

The humble pansy is the the flower for Delta Delta Delta.  It is a symbol of alumnae membership and the third step in the lifetime development of Delta Delta Delta's members.

Making pansy cards for your Tri Delta sisters is so easy if you have pansies. This is a good time of year to buy a couple of 6 packs of pansy bedding plants. You can plant them in a flower pot to brighten up the room or patio.  A pot full of pansies would make a great gift for a sorority sister OR you can "harvest" the pansies to preserve them by drying and pressing them in a phone book. These pressed pansies are perfect for making cards like the ones shown in the picture (above and below) that I made.

Anyway, because of their  brightness through the cold winter, pansies are one of my favorite flowers. The sad thing about pansies, though, is that as soon as it gets hot, they wilt. I've found I way to make the most of my pansies. In May, before the heat wave arrives, I pluck off all my pansies that are still pretty and press them between tissue paper in a thick phone book. Then I stack some weights on the phone book to flatten it. Then I wait.

About a month later a carefully remove the pansies from the book and use them to make my very special pansy gretting cards. These, I love to send to friends....Thinking of You, Happy Birthday!, Get Well, In Sympanthy, etc.

I also tie up a stack of pansy cards with a purple ribbon and give them as Christmas gifts. My sisters can't get enough of them. They are so much fun to make and give!

All you need is a pack of blank greeting cards, pressed pansies, and white glue (like Elmers).  I squirt a little bit of glue on the card and then carefully place the dried pansy on the glue and wait for it to dry. It really is easy!  An optional tool would be a set of tweezers. The pansies are very delicate when they are dried and tweezers are useful for picking them up and placing them on the cards.

I plant pansies in the fall. These hearty little blossoms stick it out through the winter even when the snow covers them and then they revive with the warm weather of spring.  I added a few fresh pansy bedding plants to my many pots because my dear husband always brings home more flowers from Home Depot than I need.  After they are planted, I am always glad  for the bright colors decorating the patio.

2. Scrapbook paper of your choice. I used blue since it is an ADPi color.
3. A large sticker (from scrapbook store) of sorority mascot or sorority symbol or flower.
4. Paint pen to paint Greek letters on lid of container.

Tools:

1. scissors to cut paper
2. Glue stick to glue paper on container.

Make a sorority candy container.

-Making the sorority candy container shown above is super quick and easy once you have the supplies since you don't have to draw of paint anything but the Greek letters on the top.
Another idea is a sorority candy jar but it takes a little more time and effort if it the design is hand drawn and colored with colored pencils.

• I used a regular jar from my kitchen.
• I traced the lid onto drawing paper and cut out a circle that could be glued to the lid.
• I drew a teddy bear for Kappa Delta on the circle.
• After gluing the circle on the lid, I tied a matching bow around the jar. The bow really adds a lot to the gift.

When I make a gift for a specific person, I like to make a gift tag from cardstock, punch a hole in the corner and use narrow ribbon to tie the tag to the gift. On the tag you can personalize as you wish...consider using a sorority quote from our Quotes Page.

Sorority Sister Hearts are Knit Together

One of the best gifts for a little sister or a big sister is one that affirms the Big-Little relationship. A framed picture of the two sisters together is always a winner because it shows appreciation for that special relationship. Go a step further with a framed picture by personalizing the picture frame with your sorority letters. This can be as simple as painting your Greek letters on the frame or can be more elaborate with handpainted sorority name and the sorority flower or mascot. Using your sorority colors for the background is another way to make it personal.

Many times you can find stickers or a rubber stamp that makes making special sorority gifts very easy.

For example, to make a Tri Sigma picture frame....

Look for a rubber stamp of a sailboat. The ink from the stamp prints the lines of the design  onto your frame. Then with the design safely and neatly on the frame, you can use a tiny paint brush to paint in the colors ( a little paint goes a long way)

The frame that I made for the Sorority Sisters site is for Delta Zeta.

The frame already had the plaid mat. I drew a simple turtle on drawing paper, colored it with pencils, cut it out, and glued it to the mat (under the glass). Then using white acrylic paint, I painted "Delta Zeta" and embellished it with two pink flowers on either end. The green frame, the pink flowers, and the pink and green turtle all display the Delta Zeta colors or pink and green.

This idea is easy, inexpensive, and so appreciated, especially when it includes a picture of Big Sis and Little Sis together.

For those of you that would rather make your own sorority items and sorority gifts, you can make a pillow like this with a little effort and time.

To make a sorority pillow like this one you will need:

white fabric cut 7 1/2 inches by 5 1/2 inches

Backing fabric 7 1/2 inches by 5 1/2 inches

Ribbon (about 12")

Fiberfil to stuff pillow

Acrylic Paints in colors that suit your design

Paintbrush(es)

Sewing tools

Paper Pattern:Basic Mascot drawing (darken basic lines with a black marker)

Paper Pattern("A Phi Mu Lives Here" (darken basic lines with a black marker)

Some basic directions:

Drawing and Painting:

I put the white fabric over the mascot pattern and the Lettering pattern, centering each pattern so that all looks balanced. I can see through the fabric enough to lightly trace the outline of the mascot onto the fabric. I also trace the "A Phi Mu Lives Here" lightly onto the white fabric.

Once I have the basic lines traced, I paint the design and the words with my acrylic paints.

After the paint is dried thoroughly, I "set" the paint with an iron set on the WOOL setting. I put a piece of white paper over the painted design and run the iron over the white paper for about 15 seconds. (NOTE: This ironing allows the painted fabric to be permanent, not washing out if you need to wash it in the washing machine.)

Then comes the SEWING:

I pin ends of the ribbon to the top edge of the painted white fabric rectangle.

With right sides together, I pin the back and the front of the pillow together.

Using a straight stitch, I stitch the front to the back, catching the ribbon ends in the seam, and leaving and opening of 2-3 inches for turning.

I turn the pillow right side out, using a knitting needle to push out the corners crisply.

I iron the pillow to get out wrinkles from turning it.

Then I stuff the sorority pillow with fiberfil and whip stitch the opening closed.

That's it!

Make your little sister a sorority gift basket and fill it with anything you like to make it more special.

You can use any basket for this idea, but chipped wood baskets like the ones shown in the picture work particularly well.
The colorful liner for the basket is made from a scrap of fabric. The tag is made from acid free scrapbooking cardstock.
Be creative with your tag. It can be as simple as your Greek letters applied with a marker, or you can use the idea above.... using your mascot as your design.

This cute sorority Phi Mu scrapbook was listed recently on eBay. Whoever painted it really has an eye for design...it turned out so cute!

I am posting the picture so that all can see what a great sorority gift idea this is.  Just take a solid color scrapbook or journal, paint your Little Sister's name (or Big Sister)  on it in the center, draw a simple design around the name that symbolizes your sorority...either your mascot or flower or other symbol.  Because it is simple, it is such a pleasing design.

The Ladybug is  mascot for some Phi Mu chapters including the one at Georgia Southern.  I used to live in Statesboro, GA and got to know some of the Phi Mu's a while back...a great bunch.  I  got to paint some ladybugs.

Anyway, someone should try making a book like this one. So Cute!!

Make Sorority Gift Stickers

For Big/Little sorority gifts, many girls like to give lots of small sorority items, sometimes combined in a sorority gift basket and sometimes just to have a little gift to give every few days. Also, it is nice to have a gift that can be mailed in an envelope like these stickers.

You only need a sharpie or other permanent marker (I like the fine tip for neater writing) and a bunch of foam shape stickers from a craft shop.  The foam shapes are stickers. You just peel the paper off of the back and expose the stickiness.

I divided the shapes into colors and then used all the yellow stars for Chi Omega stickers.

Make dotted Greek letters with the Sharpie pen. You simply draw you letters like print and then finish by adding DOTS to the ends of the letters. It makes the letters look more finished and professional, don't you think?

Delta Zeta Gifts

The is one of my favorite Delta Zeta designs because it incorporates the Greek letters with the Delta Zeta Turtle mascots.

This sorority gift craft project is an example of what you can do with a plastic container (pink bucket) and paint pens that you buy from the craft store.  I used a dark green pen, a light green pen, and a black pen for this design. I think there is a touch of white in there, too.

I always start with a pattern on paper. I transfer the pattern to my bucket with graphite paper which you can buy from a craft store for this purpose.  I place the graphite paper on the bucket where I wanted to put the design with the pattern on top of it. I then used a ball point pen to transfer the turtle Greek Letter design onto the bucket. ---Trace it on lightly! You don't want dark lines showing that you can't cover with paint. You just need enough of the pattern to show so that you know where to paint!

I shook the paint pens for awhile to mix up the paint. Then I uncapped each pen as I used it, but first started the flow of paint by pressing the pen tip firmly against a piece of scrap paper until the paint started flowing. Then I filled in my design just like coloring in a coloring book.  For the black, you can use a permanent pen like a fine sharpie for the detail lines like the turtle's eye and smile.

The paint from the paint pens dries fast. I like to spray acrylic varnish over a design to give it lasting power, but it is not necessary.  (The acrylic spray I use is made by Krylon and I think it is called Clear Coat or Clear something.)

That's it for making a Delta Zeta bucket.

Paint pens are great for painting your Greek Letters on foam can coolers like the ones seen in the picture behind the bucket.

I have a few dozen craft baskets left that are up for sale on ebay this month. If you have been wanting to make a batch of sorority gift baskets, you need to buy a dozen baskets now before they sell out. When they are gone, they're gone. I can't buy anymore because my closet space is all used up.

Anyway, the dozen baskets come with a pattern sheet for making the fabric liner and basic directions for making a gift tag, which is what makes the basket to cute. Pillow Embroidered with Alpha Chi Omega Sorority Letters

This is a simple sorority pillow, but it has  a classic look. Green and Red are two of Alpha Chi Omega sorority's colors, so choosing a green and white gingham for the backgroud and red for the letters is a welcome choice. Making the letters in red and the background in green rather than a red background and green letters assures that the letters are noticed.

The ruffle gives the pillow a feminine touch plus it adds to the distinctive look of the pillow (rather than a plain pillow edge)

So if you plan to make a sorority pillow, consider these three things:

1. Choose your colors wisely. They matter most of all.

What better way to remember your sorority's special times than making a commemorative scrapbook. A sorority scrapbook becomes your personal expression for what means the most to you.  It is a handmade book that is an artform of memories.

One of the best purposes for making a sorority scrapbook is to present it to a little sister of a big sister at the end of the year. By including pictures and souvenirs  of parties and events, you'll be giving a very special reminder of a very special friendship.

Collect scrapbook papers in your sorority's colors and trace off your Greek Letters. Cutting  several of each letter  at the same time saves time.  Make letter sets in different sizes and different types to fit the mood of your scrapbook pages.

Kappa Kappa Gamma Scrapbook Kit

Scrapbooking is a craft that allows you to to express yourself while you make a record of some of your best memories. Scrapbooking is enjoyed by people of all ages and with all kinds of interests.

Here is the latest Kappa Alpha Theta gift set just in time for fall rush. This set is selling for $11 with shipping under $5.

This is Kappa Alpha Theta best sorority gift buy this week. It won't last long. (I did not make this set. It is listed on ebay)

For any Kappa Alpha Theta crafters, you can make a plaque like the one shown in the picture.

You need:

1. a wooden plaque ( craft stores or Walmart)

2. black and yellow acrylic paint

3. quality paint brush for painting the Greek letters OR a yellow paint pen

4. 1 foot of yellow ribbon.

5. OPTIONAL: Clear Acrylic Spray (Krylon makes a good product)

Paint the yellow edge first. Then add a second coat of paint to the yellow. Let it dry.

Now paint the black. Very carefully paint the black edge against the yellow that is already dry. You will probably need another coat of black also.

When you are happy with the background, then add the greek letters. (I would practice this one paper first with a felt tip pen to get the size and look you want.  With graphite paper you can trace the basic design on to the plaque so that you have something to go by when you start painting)  You need a very good brush to do letter detail nicely. A paint pen is a good option if you are not used to painting detail.

You will probably need a second coat of paint for the letter.

When completely dry:

Optional: spray with Clear Acrylic Spray (protects like varnish)

Decide how much ribbon you want for a hanger. On the back side of the plaque make to fingernail sized puddles of Elmers White Glue, each about 1 inch on the left and on the right of the back top center of plaque. Make sure that the glue is under and over the ends of the ribbon. LET THE GLUE DRY OVERNIGHT.

That's it!!

The Kappa Alpha Theta journal is another item you can make yourself. The trick is to find a journal in the right color and if you like the one in the picture, you might be able to find one like it with the slide slot. Then all you have to do is use some scrapbook paper (or any high quality paper) to make a Kappa Alpha Theta tag.....easy to do since you can work at it on paper until you like it. If you can't find a yellow journal with a slide slot, just see what IS available and be creative with what you can find.

MAKE YOUR OWN MESSAGE BOARD:

If you want to make your own, pick up a message board at Walmart (you might not be able to find one with a blue border-I don't know....) . Then go to Hobby Lobby or Michaels for a wooden lion cu- out and magnets. I have seen the lion cut-outs that are already painted. You only have to add Greek letters. The image above shows shiny bling. If that is the look you want, just look for that at the craft store, too.

Some you have asked about the sorority scrapbook cuts.  There used to be Gamma Phi Beta scrapbook sets as well as Kappa Delta sets available on ebay. I am hoping that the seller will have more available soon since there are many of you who are waiting for them to become available.

Just cut and fold the scrapbooking paper to make it fit into a standard envelope and you have your basic card made!

You can go super simple and only add your sorority letters or you can make a card that is a work of art with your sorority flower or mascot. Paint a design or use stickers or rubber stamps.  Remember, you can always print out letters or designs from the computer to incorporate into your sorority card, but in a world of manufactured stuff and perfect letters from fonts, handmade and hand drawn has an irresistible appeal.

A doorhanger makes a great sorority gift for your big sister.  Here we have a picture of a Zeta Tau Alpha design with the sorority crown theme.  A door hanger is an easy gift to make and the materials are available at your local craft store.  I have seen the wooden crowns at Michaels.  Hobby Lobby carries a different line of painted wooden cut outs, but they have a very good selection also, from what I have seen.  Look for your sorority mascot, your sorority symbol, or your sorority flower.  You can always paint something if it is the wrong color.

Here is a sorority gift idea that is quick, inexpensive, and easy. A sorority doorhanger is a great little sister or big sister gift for anyone to make and give.

You should be able to find the materials to make this at a store like Hobby Lobby or Michaels.  They usually have the doorhangers made out of various materials.  I've seen them made of foam or made of wood.  I think the wooden doorhangers look better.

On this design, the sorority sister painted the front and back of the doorhanger dark brown.  When that was day, she glued the (already painted) wooden giraffe on the bottom. When that was dry, she lightly sketched her Greek letters (Alpha Epsilon Phi) in the proper place. She used her detail brush to paint the Greek letters with gold acrylic paint.  When that was dry, she painted various colored circles with white acrylic paint in a haphazard pattern.

I would paint the background and the Greek letters in my own sorority colors.  It just makes it a custom designed gift to use your own colors, don't you think?

Personalize it on the back side with a fine paint pen in any color you choose or a black sharpie will do.

"I purchased a mug from the Hobby Lobby that has paper inside for decorating that slides into the mug behind the plastic exterior.  Instead of coloring it myself,  I printed out a insert using our Greek letters and sorority flower ( or whatever looks nice).  My mug turned out great and it was easy to make.  It is definitely one-of-a-kind.  You could even print your lil sis's name on it. Just be creative and make it however you wish.  When the mug was finished, I filled it with packets of  cocoa and specialty tea bags.  I was really pleased with it!!"

Here is a great idea for a very personalized gift for your little sister.  This is handmade by a Phi Beta Psi big sister and given to her little sister.  The focal point of the collage is the center where she glued on pictures of Big Sis and Lil Sis. She used a plastic picture frame to hold a collage.  The collage is made from various letters and pictures cut from magazines and cards.  It is embellished with three dimentional hearts.  It looks like she used silver glitter paint to paint a "ribbon" around the whole design.

For Directions:

These magnets require:
1. foam or wooden shapes
2. acrylic paint in the colors of your choice
3. detail paintbrush(s) and fine sharpee in black
3. craft magnets (best buy comes in a roll that can be cut into one inch pieces. You peel off the backing paper from the magnet revealing adhesive which allows you to stick the magnet on the back of your wooden or foam shape)

These can be made from wooden or foam shapes. The ones appearing in the photo were prepainted green so that saved me some time. I only needed a few colors of acrylic paint, namely pink, white, green, and black. Once you buy your sorority colors in acrylic paint plus white and black, you will be set to make and paint a multitude of surprises or gifts for your little sister or your big sister.

Sorority Magnet Directions
1. On paper, practice drawing a very basic turtle or mascot of your choice.

2. When it looks ok to you, copy it "free hand" onto the wooden or foam shape in pencil (lightly so you can erase if needed).

3. Next, you paint the largest areas. ( You will find that cheap brushes will not give near as good results as better brushes. The craft stores sell brushes for about $3 that will help you succeed)
When it dries, consider adding a pattern. I added white polka dots to the pink turtle shell.

4. Then paint the face (eyes and mouth) with white and black paint. Dab on a tiny shite circle for the eye and wait for it to dry. For the black eyeball and mouth, you can either use a very thin liner brush or use a fine permanent paint pen like a fine sharpie.

5. Your Greek letters can be painted on or drawn on with paint pens like Sharpee. I prefer to paint them as seen in the samples. I used PINK on the green background so that it would show up well. I usually have to put 2 coats of paint if I use a light color like pink on a dark background like green. You can outline your letters with a black pen if desired.

6. To complete your custom made sorority magnet: After the paint is dry, adhere a small strip of magnet onto the back of the shape.

Alpha Kappa Alpha Frog Ornament

Tis the season to be jolly..
These little AKA pink and green frog ornaments are full of jolly.  Liven up your own tree or give them away as Christmas gifts to your sorority sisters.

Use this idea and make your own sorority Christmas ornaments.

• Look for 3 wooden cut-outs of your mascot such as the frog in this example.  You will also need 3 Woodsies.
• I used the round shaped woodsies for this example.
• I painted the woodsie pink and when it dried, I used a Sharpie permanent markers to write the letters.
• This wooden circle (woodsie) was glued to the wooden frog.
• I cut a length or narrow pink ribbon and attached it to the wooden frog this way: With Elmer's Glue I made 2 little globs of glue on the back of the frog and put the ends of the ribbon in the glue.  Then I added another small drop of blue on top of the ribbon end. I allowed it to dry thoroughly (takes and hour or two).

That's it. Ready to hang on the tree!

Make a Bunch of Sorority Letter Cards Tonight!

1. I bought a pack of a dozen 3" x 4" white cards with envelopes from Michaels or Hobby Lobby

2. Then I chose some pink and green scrapbook paper to cut the letters from.

3. Next I made a template by drawing the Delta and Zeta on cardboard. (This step takes the longest since  you want the letters to look right)

4. Then I cut out the cardboard template.

5. Next I traced with a pencil around the edge of the template letters onto the pink scrapbook paper.

6. Then I cut out the letters with scissors.

7. Last step: I used a glue stick to glue the letters on to the card.

That's It.

The reason I went to the trouble to make a cardboard template of the Delta and Zeta is because I plan to use them again and the next time I need to make paper or cloth letters, it will be much quicker.

Also, if you buy a pack of cards like I did instead of making a card with folded paper, then you might as well go ahead and make a set of cards for a gift or two. Get a pink or green ribbon and tie 6 cards together with a bow.  This makes a great gift presentation and it is so easy to do.

Make Your Own Delta Zeta Gifts

Cards can be so easy to make and yet a handmade card gives more to your sorority sister than any bought card ever could.

The easiest card to make would be one with scrapbooking cardstock in your sorority colors embellished with stickers of your sorority mascot or flower.

Use markers or Sharpee pens to write your message. (it is a good ideas to practice writing your message on plain paper first so that you can see how it will look first.  You will probably be able to do a better job on the actual card if you practice first.)

The card in the picture is an M & M card. I covered up the M&M in the middle with the hand-painted lion.  A simple drawing like this one of the lion mascot is very easy to draw and paint.  Then I cut it out and glued it onto the card making a very special card.

Alpha Delta Pi Lion

For a standard card, fold a piece of scrapbooking cardstock (in your sorority color of course) in half. Decorate with your own painting, drawing, or use stickers or rubber stamp designs that represent your sorority's mascot, flower, letters, or whatever you like.

Make an easy little sister/big sister gift

with scrapbooking paper, a lion sticker, and a snack or nut container. Perfect handmade gift for Alpha Delta Pi or any sorority.

You will need:

1.  A clean snack container with lid

2.  2 sheets of scrapbook paper in your sorority color(s)

3.  glue stick

4.  A mascot sticker or other

(can substitute with a mascot design you make yourself on acid free paper)

5. scissors.

All you have to do is:

1. Cut the scrapbook paper to fit the container.  It will take two pieces since the scrapbook paper is not wide enough to go around the whole container.

2. Glue the two pieces onto the container, overlapping to fit.

3. Press the sticker  in the center (or cut out your mascot design & glue in the center)

Basically, that is it!  If you have paint pens, you can mark your Greek Letters on the lid.

This ideas makes a great little or big sister gift, if you enjoy giving a lot of surprises.

Sorority Gifts

These STUFFED GREEK LETTER PILLOWS are over a foot tall (approximately 12 to 14 inches).  They have sturdy white cotton fabric on the back and are stuffed with poly fiberfil.  The Phi Mu set has cute white satin bows with foam sparkle pink butterflies placed on each Greek letter.

There are plastic hangers sewn on the back of the letters so you can hang these letters on the wall. Of course, they would be so cute just laying on your bed as pillows or on a shelf.

For your Do-it-Yourselfers, consider making some letter pillows yourself!

You need some paper a little larger than the size pillows that you want to make.

On the paper sketch your Greek Letters with a pencil making them a little bigger than you want the pillows to be (because when you sew the pillow together it will look smaller than it does on the pattern).  After drawing the pattern, be sure to add a seam allowance of at least 1/2 inch.

Pin pattern to your fabric.  Cut out two layers for front & back. With right sides together, sew layers together leaving an opening for turning.  Turn right side out.  Then stuff your Greek letter with soft fiberfil.   Sew close the opening that was used for turning.

The easiest letters to make would be those without holes like Gamma or Chi since you can do most of the sewing on a sewing machine.  If you make letters with holes, like Phi or Theta, you will have to cut out the holes after you sew the outside letter edges together.  The edges of the holes will need to be finished with hand sewing.

Make a tote bag from a T-shirt

You can make a sorority t-shirt tote bag like this one in about an hour if you have your supplies handy.  The directions assume that you have a sewing machine.

Supplies:

• T-shirt
• sorority letter or mascot iron-on transfers
• basic sewing supplies
• sewing machine
• scissors
• iron

Directions for Making Sorority Letter Bag:

• Iron the T shirt
• Fold the T shirt in half lengthwise
• Starting in the center front fold about 3 inches below the neckline; draw a "u" shape and continue a straight line up to the shoulder seam and armhole.
• Measure about 2 or 3" from this line at shoulder toward the armhole.  Make a mark.  Draw a second "u" shape down from the shoulder around sleeve and armhole.
• With scissors, cut out the straps using markings as your guide.
• Unfold the T shirt to see  the results
• Turn T shirt inside out (right sides together) and sew along the bottom. (press seam for a better result)
• Turn shirt right side out.
• Fold under 3/8" of straps.  Press
• With a zip-zag stitch, sew around strap.
• Place  iron-on letters, symbol, or mascot on right side of garment.
• Following manufacturer's instructions, adhere the iron on to your bag

(NOTE:  Other ways of adding sorority letters to a bag are with hand or machine embroidery, or painting the Greek letters with acrylic paints. For painting or hand embroidery, you will need to lightly sketch your sorority letters onto the bag with a pencil or fabric chalk)

Make a Special Sorority Picture Frame

You Can Make One!!

Here is a hand-crafted gift that is easy to make for a sorority gift.

Recycle a picture frame and make it into a very special Big Sister/Little Sister sorority gift.

Here are some TIPS to get you started:

This picture frame was already painted olive green.

If the frame you have available is not the color that you want, or if it is scratched, etc. in need of paint.....simply paint it with acrylic paint which is available for less than one dollar. The black foam "brushes" work great for a project like this one and they, too, are very inexpensive.

I used some acid free white cardstock paper to sketch a little turtle. I colored him with colored pencils and then cut him out. I glued him to the mat that was already a part of my frame.

Try to use what you have, but you can buy different colored mats in standard sizes at craft stores.

The rest of the design is painted with acrylic paints onto the frame and then sprayed with crystal clear varnish (varnish is optional, but helps to preserve your work)

If you are not confident using paintbrushes, you can use paint pens for a very good effect. Practice the way you are going to write, first on paper before you actually paint or write on your frame. This helps prevent an undesired outcome.

Embellish your written design with some little hand painted flowers. Use the end of the paint brush to dip in the paint to make the dots of the flower. Then add stems and leaves with green paint. These, too, can be painted with paint pens if you don't like to use paintbrushes.

Stitch witchery- an iron-on bonding material (available from fabric departments & stores)

1. Form your letters with the ribbon. Fold or cut the ribbon to get the right shapes and turns. Just work at it until you like it.

2. Cut out stitch witchery to fit behind the ribbon letters.

3. Position the letters (with the stitch witchery underneath) in the center of one of your fabric squares.

4. Set the iron on wool (medium heat). Place a piece of paper on top of your design. Iron the letters (through the paper) about 30 seconds. Let the the fabric cool before peeling the paper off. Check the letters to make sure they are securely bonded to the pillow fabric. You may need to repeat the ironing process. If the stitch witchery doesn't cover every spot, that's OK. Just so most of it is bonded.

5. To construct your pillow, pin right sides together. Sew around the square leaving an opening for turning the pillow right side out.

6. After turning right side out, stuff the pillow with fiberfil. Close pillow opening with a whip stitch.

Paint Your Letters for a One-of-a-Kind Sorority Hat

If you can do these things, you can make a sorority hat like the one shown above.

Directions for Handmade Sorority Hat (Kappa Delta Sample Hat):

(Actually, you must buy a straw hat-mine came from Target-You just make the "medallion" patch)

From paper make a basic shape pattern for your "medallion". The sample hat has an oval shape.

Use your pattern, to cut out 2 from light colored fabric. You can use pinking shears for a zig zag edge as shown in the sample or just use regular scissors.

Draw your Greek Letters on paper. Make the outline dark with a marker.

Place your light colored fabric over the letters so that you can see the letters through the fabric and draw letters on the fabric with a pencil.

Use acrylic paint to paint your letters.

Sew back & front of oval "medallion" together with 1/4" seam allowance. (you can use a machine or just a needle and thread)

On the back side of your fabric oval, use sharp scissors to cut an small opening (only on the back) Stuff a little cotton or fiberfil stuffing through the slit to make your fabric "medallion" puffy (3D).

Use a glue gun to attach the sorority fabric oval to your hat.

That's all there is to it!

You need a basic mat-this one is 5" X 7" with a round opening, but a rectangle will work, too.

Actually, a pink mat would be prettiest if you can find one.

Use any kind of art paper or even cardstock.

With a pencil, lightly draw your ladybug (it will probably turn out better than you expect!)

If you mess up, just erase and continue until you are happy with the drawing.

Use water color paints or colored pencils or even crayons to lightly color your drawing.
